Nisha Doughlin, of Metah Designs, always had a penchant for fashion and actually wanted to be a personal stylist. Somehow that dream transformed into making jewelry.
Her work can be described as minimal, inspired by shapes, nature, Caribbean life and colour. The premise behind each piece designed is that it becomes a timeless staple in a woman’s wardrobe - to be worn any day every day. She wants women to feel empowered while wearing her pieces and realise their true beauty and intrinsic value.
All her jewelry is handmade and bridges the realm of fine and semi-fine jewelry since she works with sterling silver, copper and brass.
Another important aspect of her work is to create educational programs for women in rural communities interested in learning the skill of metalsmithing. This philanthropic element of the business will help facilitate self-empowerment and enable women to make a living and be independent.
